2. Know How Sleep Monitor Track Your Sleep

2.1 How does Sleep Monitor work?

Sleep Monitor collects sleep data with the help of different smartphone sensors:

â—Ź Microphone:Captures environmental noises like breathing, snoring, talking, and movement.

â—Ź Accelerometer:Detects body movements, motion, and activity levels like tossing and turning.

â—Ź Gyroscope:Tracks changes in sleeping positions.

Advanced algorithms process the collected data to identify different sleep stages and generate sleep reports. At the same time, the app uses exclusive patented technology and complex models to analyze the data for you, making the data more in line with the user's sleep habits and helping you get more accurate insights. Hope you enjoy it.

2.2 What kind of sleep metrics does Sleep Monitor provide?

Sleep Monitor provides detailed sleep metrics, including:

â—Ź Total Sleep Time

â—Ź Sleep Score

â—Ź Sleep Efficiency:Time spent asleep vs. time in bed.

â—Ź Sleep Latency:Time taken to fall asleep.

â—Ź Awake Periods:Duration of wake-ups.

â—Ź Sleep Noise Detection:Captures and analyzes snoring, dream talking, and other patterns.

â—Ź Sleep Stages and Analysis:Light, deep, REM sleep phases analysis.

â—Ź Tips for Improvement:Guidance on improving sleep health.

â—Ź Trends Over Time:Long-term graphs showing sleep trends to help users understand the impact of lifestyle changes.

â—Ź Data Synchronization:Sync data with Apple Health, and Google Fit.

With Sleep Monitor, you can gain valuable insights into your sleep patterns and make meaningful changes for a healthier and more restful life.

2.3 🌟How does the Sleep Monitor know I am in light/deep/REM sleep?

By analyzing both body movements and noise levels, Sleep Monitor effectively identifies and distinguishes between awake, light, deep, REM sleep phases, offering valuable insights into your sleep quality. The app’s algorithms are continually updated to improve the accuracy of detection.

Relationship Between Movements, Noise, and Sleep Phases:

â—Ź Awake:light movement and sound.

â—Ź Light Sleep:higher movement, noise levels or sounds, steady breathing.

â—Ź Deep Sleep:little to no movement, and a quieter environment.

â—Ź REM Sleep: (Rapid Eye Movement) , vivid dreams, increased brain activity. REM cannot be directly measured using activity data alone. Sleep Monitor uses statistical analysis to estimate REM phases. When a deep sleep period is followed by a long enough light sleep period, the first half of the light sleep phase is marked as REM.

This allows Sleep Monitor to provide you with a more accurate understanding of your sleep patterns and enhance your overall sleep experience. We encourage you to try these features and see the difference in your sleep quality.

2.4 What is Sleep Monitor’s scoring model?

Sleep Monitor provides a summary score representing sleep quality.

This sleep scoring algorithm takes many factors into account, such as the whole sleep duration, deep sleep ratio, personal feeling in the morning, and the physical conditions, etc.

Referring to specialists'advice, we adjust the weights of each factor to make the score more accurate and more consistent with that from professional equipment monitoring like PSG (Polysomnography). A high score reflects you get a good sleep with long sleep duration and deeper sleep, vice versa.

2.5 How accurate is the Sleep Monitor app?

Developers are committed to improving the accuracy of data and the professionalism of applications.

In order to verify our app’s accuracy, we have performed a large amount of tests to compare our app against popular sleep tracker apps and smart hardware. Test results show that accuracy of Sleep Monitor exceeds 90%.

We are continuously working to refine our algorithms and ensure that you receive the most reliable and insightful sleep data possible. If you think the data does not quite match your actual situation, you are welcome to share your sleep data with us at any time.

2.6 Will Sleep Monitor generate random data?

NO! Sleep Monitor NEVER generates random data.

It generates real-time tracking data based on your body movements and environmental noise. Using your phone’s accelerometer and microphone, the app creates sleep graphs through a specialized algorithm.

Advanced technology and constant algorithm updates guarantee that the data you receive is accurate, reliable, and based on real, measurable factors.

Our commitment is to provide you with trustworthy sleep insights—no random data.

2.7 Is the Sleep Monitor app safe?

Yes, absolutely.

We take your data privacy very seriously. Currently, there is no user system in Sleep Monitor to store your data on our side. Your sleep data is stored locally on your device. Sleep Monitor WILL NEVER expose your sleep reports under any circumstances.

We are fully committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal data remains secure and confidential at all times.

3. Instructions for Use

3.1 🌟How to get more accurate sleep reports?

Do some users feel that the reports given by the application are not accurate? May be you are not using the right method. Let’s take a look at the following usage guide.

â—Ź Features like recording require the app to access your device's microphone permissions. Please enable this permission in your system settings.

Tap Phone Settings > Apps > Sleep Monitor > Permissions > Microphone > Allow.

â—Ź Use it at the right time: Sleep Monitor is designed for tracking your sleep hours. We recommend opening the app and starting the monitoring process as you prepare to sleep. Data and recordings captured during non-sleep hours can be inaccurate and meaningless.

â—Ź Place your phone correctly: Position your phone near your pillow to accurately capture your movement and noise throughout the night.

â—Ź Other checklist before tracking:

â—‹ Sleep alone

â—‹ Keep the bedroom quiet, without loud noise

â—‹ Keep the charger connected or keep the phone battery level above 60%

○ After clicking the “Start Sleep” button, keep the app running in the foreground, don’t quit it in the background. (Don’t worry, the screen turning off won’t affect the monitoring)

That’s everything the development team hopes you’ll keep in mind. Enjoy it!

3.2 Why does the report show that I was asleep when I was awake?

The app uses phone sensors to measure your body movements and environmental noise changes and then recognize your sleep stages.

If you are lying still in bed and making no sounds, the app may juage that you are asleep.

We suggest you start tracking sleep only when you prepare to sleep and share support screenshots of your ambient noise data for further checking if you meet this issue. Providing more accurate models is also the direction of our future efforts.

3.3 🌟Why is there no sleep apnea data in the report?

It is generally associated with snoring.

If there is no sound for several seconds after you snore, the app might interpret this as a sign of sleep apnea. If the app detects sleep apnea events, it will generate a chart for your reference.

If you do not see any sleep apnea-related data report it means that the app has not detected this phenomenon for the time being. You can track for more nights and share screenshots of your sleep records. Customer service staff will follow up and try their best to help you.

3.4 Where is the heart rate detection?

After the update of V2.8.0, we’ve adjusted the entrance of the heart rate detection feature. You can now find it at the top of the Discover Tab. We hope you will continue to use it and give us more feedback.

3.5 How to sync heart rate data during sleep?

Sleep Monitor has a built-in Heart Rate Detection, but it only measures heart rate in real time. The app cannot monitor heart rate fluctuations during sleep in real time. You can sync your heart rate info during sleep from Google Fit this way:

1). More Tab > Google Fit > Connect

Or: Records Tab > Heart Rate During Sleep > Connect Now

2). Tracking heart rate with Google Fit while you track sleep with Sleep Monitor

3). Find Heart Rate info synched from Google Fit in your sleep report

We encourage you to take advantage of this feature for a more comprehensive view of your sleep health!

3.6 Will sleep tracking be accurate when I sleep with others?

We suggest you sleep alone to eliminate any interference from others on your sleep reports. Sleep Monitor cannot distinguish the source of the collected sounds and movements currently. We will study this and hope to improve it in subsequent versions.

3.7 How long will the lullaby play? How to set playing duration?

There are both short and long relaxing sounds in Sleep Monitor.

Our app supports setting the playing duration: 5 mins/10 mins/15 mins/20 mins…115 mins/120 mins . The default playing duration is 30 min. So the sound shorter than 30 min will loop when playing.

Our music is designed to help you fall asleep faster. You can set a loop to play one of your favorite music for about two hours. The app does not record your activity while the music is playing. To ensure the integrity of the sleep monitoring, we have limited the length of music playback.

You can change sounds duration manually this way: Sleep tab > Click on the sound icon on top > Select sound > Find the clock icon on the playback progress bar > Click on it to select a preferred duration > Done

Hope you can sleep well every day.

3.8 How to switch languages?

Sleep Monitor supports more than 30 languages, such as English, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, Spanish, Persian, Finnish, French, Croatian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese…

â—Ź On Android

When first installed, Sleep Monitor shows the same language as your system by default. You can only change the system language to switch language for Sleep Monitor.

â—Ź On iOS

When first installed, Sleep Monitor shows the same language as your system by default. If you want to switch language, go to Phone Settings> Sleep Monitor > Switch Language

We will add the function of switching languages in the app in later updates.

To be a volunteer for translation, please contact us this way: Sleep Monitor > More Tab > Help us Translate.

3.9 Does Sleep Monitor support smart wearables?

Sorry, Sleep Monitor doesn’t support smart wearable devices at present. Nevertheless, we are working on it. Please stay tuned.

3.10 Does the Sleep Monitor drain a lot of battery?

The rate at which your battery drains is related to your battery health. If you have used your device for a long time, it will drain faster than a newer device.

Generally, Sleep Monitor will use an average of 20% battery per night (7 to 8 hours) for sleep tracking. When noise recording is turned on, it might jump up to 30%. To prevent high battery usage, we suggest you kill any unnecessary services before starting sleep tracking.

3.11 🌟Why there are no sleep niose or recording in sleep reports?

Sleep Monitor starts recording sounds only when the environmental noise level is higher than 30 dB. You can check this data in your sleep reports.

Reasons why you get no sleep recordings or less recordings:

â—Ź Have you checked whether the app's microphone permission is enabled?

Android:

Tap Phone Settings > Apps > Sleep Monitor > Permissions > Microphone > Allow.

iOS:

Tap Phone Settings > Sleep Monitor > Microphone > Allow.

â—Ź Was the application forcibly stopped by the system midway?

When system resources are limited or your phone's RAM is insufficient, the system may automatically terminate some background app processes to free up resources for foreground applications or system operations. We recommend regularly cleaning your phone's storage and avoiding running too many other apps at night.

To save battery, the system may also close background processes. You can disable "Battery Optimization" in your settings to improve performance.

Please note that this information can help reduce the likelihood of the app being terminated but cannot entirely prevent it. We will continue to monitor this issue and explore further solutions.

â—Ź The ambient noise is too low (no significant sounds like snoring or talking). Please understand that the app does not record valuable audio every day. If you frequently have problems with sounds or recordings, feel free to take a screenshot of your monitoring results and send it to us for further assistance.

By following these steps, you’ll increase the chances of capturing valuable niose during your sleep. We hope you have a great experience with our app.

3.12 How can I save or delete my recording data?

We're sorry, not all user's data will be saved because the server cannot handle the excessive amount of data.

â—Ź For free users:

In-app data is typically stored for one week and will be automatically deleted after the expiration date. We apologize, but you cannot save or delete in-app data.

â—Ź For Sleep Monitor Pro users:

â—‹ If you would like to save recordings, please follow these steps: Open Sleep Monitor > Records Tab > Tap any recording > Select the download button at the bottom

In addition, you can also choose to automatically back up your data to prevent loss. However, the backed-up data can only be restored on the same device.

Open Sleep Monitor > Records Tab > Tap the cloud button in the upper right corner

Open Sleep Monitor > More Tab > Auto Backup Reports

â—‹ If you want to delete recordings:

Option 1: Open Sleep Monitor > Records Tab > Tap any recording > Select the delete button at the bottom

Option 2: Open Sleep Monitor > More Tab > Manage Audios > Select the recording > Delete

Let us save the data properly and understand our sleep situation bit by bit.

3.13 Do you store our recorded sounds on your server?

All audio recordings or sounds are stored only on your phone. They may be shared via a link to your local storage if you choose to share them with others.

Pro users can back up their recordings to the Cloud manually for later reference.

The reality is, if you don’t share your recordings with anyone, they will remain completely private on your phone. You have full control over your data.

You can choose to share them with us only if you have concerns about a specific sound, which will help us investigate and address any issues.

We are fully committed to protecting your data privacy and ensuring that your recordings stay secure and private at all times.

3.14 Will the shared sleep noise recordings expire?

Yes. But don't worry.

Pro users can share their sleep noise recordings with others. The shared link is valid for 7 days. You need to re-click the “Share” button to generate a new link when the old link expires.

Let's share funny recordings with friends and family.

3.15 🌟What is the Smart Alarm mode? How to turn it on?

The Smart Alarm uses artificial intelligence to detect the lightest sleep phase within your set wake-up window. It triggers the alarm during the lightest sleep phase, making waking up smoother and less tiring.

You can set a smart alarm in the following ways:

â—Ź Open Sleep Monitor > More Tab > Alarm Settings > Set an alarm > Click smart alarm > enable the "Wake up phase" option.

â—Ź Open Sleep Monitor > Sleep Tab > Alarm button > Set an alarm > Click smart alarm > enable the "Wake up phase" option.

The smart alarm will activate based on the wake-up phase you set. Hope you wake up refreshed every day.

5. Common Errors & Solutions

5.1 🌟Error fixes: “Sleep tracking is intermittent and part of the data was lost. Still show sleep report?” or no report generated after waking up.

To ensure a smooth and uninterrupted sleep tracking experience, please follow these helpful tips:

â—Ź This issue usually happens when the Android system randomly kills apps running in the background.

â—‹ When Sleep Monitor is killed, sleep tracking will be interrupted so there will be no sleep report generated.

â–  We recommend do not quit it in the background after starting tracking. You can lock the app process.

â–  Remove Sleep Monitor from the battery optimization list. Charge your phone first. You also can do this by going to:

Phone Settings > Apps > Sleep Monitor > Battery > Battery optimization> Not optimized.

â—‹ This issue may happen when the phone RAM is not enough.

â–  The app may experience difficulties in saving sleep records. Make sure there is enough space to save sleep records.

â—Ź The report will be received only if the monitoring time exceeds 30 minutes or is less than 24 hours. Please pay attention to the time when monitoring.

We believe these tips will help optimize your experience. If you need further support, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

5.2 Error fixes : “Sleep Monitor detected unusual sleeping behavior, no record has been generated.”

Users will receive this message when the tracking time is over 24 hours. The app will judge this long time sleeping as abnormal behavior so no records will be generated. So, please try tracking within 24 hours.

5.3 Error fixes : Alarm is not working, or alarm didn’t go off.

If you’re facing trouble with the alarm, it could be due to one of several reasons. Here’s a quick rundown of possible causes and solutions to help get the alarm working again.

â—Ź Ensure you are in sleep monitoring mode. Tap the "Start Sleep" button and do not exit the page during the sleep tracking session.

â—Ź Both the Alarm and Sleep Reminder features need notification permission to work properly. (Note to Android users)

Please grant notification permission for Sleep Monitor first: Tap Phone Settings > Notification > Sleep Monitor> Allow Notification

â—Ź Make sure the app will be killed by the system. Read more about how to avoid apps being killed here. https://dontkillmyapp.com/

Hopefully, the alarms you set are working properly. Have a nice day!
